Life in the Data Deluge

Panel Discussion

September 15, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Jaron Lanier, Nick Carr, Sue Halpern, Christine Rosen
109 Culbreth Rd
Charlottesville, VA 22903 United States

Technology is wondrous — it gives us speed, efficiency, and control. At the same time, it fundamentally alters our way of life — how we communicate, how we interact with one another, and how we view mortality and the body. The humanities can help us answer questions about values and ethics within our technology-addled lives. This discussion will explore how history, philosophy, and literature can illuminate the promises and perils of new technologies — from smartphones to driverless cars.

Following this event, a book signing will be held with featured speakers and books will be available for purchase at the venue through the UVA Bookstore.
