Gene Schutt is a 1975 alumnus of the University of Virginia. He holds a B.A. in Economics and spent a majority of his 40-year career in banking and financial services.
Gene, his wife Cindy, and their two daughters lived abroad for eleven years in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, first in Sydney, Australia and later in Hong Kong. After their expatriate years, they spent 13 years in California and 8 years in Atlanta. In 2006, they returned to Charlottesville.
Since 2009, Gene has served the University as President of the College Foundation, and as Associate Dean for Development of Arts & Sciences. Prior to joining the University, he served as Chairman, President and CEO of Citicorp Trust Bank, a Citigroup company, and previously as President of Avco Financial Services, a Textron Inc. company. He was a 24-year member of the Young Presidents’ and World Presidents’ Organizations, served on the boards of the American Financial Services Association, the Financial Services Roundtable’s Housing Policy Council, and the American Paper Institute. He currently serves as an independent director on the board of Community Choice Financial, Inc., a financial services company, serving consumers in 30 states and Canada.
