Jack Hamilton

Jack Hamilton is a pop critic at Slate, and the assistant professor of American Studies and Media Studies at the University of Virginia. He received his Ph.D in American studies from Harvard University in 2013, and was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Colorado-Boulder’s Laboratory for Race and Popular culture. He is a cultural historian who studies sound, media, popular culture.Hamilton’s work has also appeared in The Atlantic, NPR, ESPN, Transition, L.A Review of Books, and more. His book, Just Around Midnight: Rock and Roll and the Racial Imagination, comes out September 2016.
